Thank you to our Guest Contributor Sophia Smith for this wonderful article….
Beautiful weather and charming venues, especially in the spring and summer, seem just perfect for any couple to organize a big wedding ceremony to celebrate their love. And while everything is allowed for the bride and the groom in terms of the wedding day outfits, the guests need to pay a bit more attention. You can still, of course, look fashionable and glamorous, but not in all colors.
That is why we bring you four colors that you shouldn’t wear as a wedding guest.
Black…
Although we can all agree that a little black dress is an outfit option you cannot go wrong with, this does not apply to wedding guest attire. Undoubtedly elegant, black may be labeled as an inappropriate color option for your dress or any other fashion piece. In order not to risk with your outfit, you can wear a stylish deep navy piece and that way still get the glamour of a darker hue. You can keep it romantic and in accordance with the warmer weather with a one-shoulder navy dress and modern black pumps. To make the feminine and alluring side of your look even more pronounced, opt for silver jewelry, such as a couple of stacked rings and delicate hoops.
Another great option you can wear instead of black is a combination of black and white in the form of polka dots pattern. Opt for a satin midi-length dress and sparkly jewelry. When it comes to other accessories, try to stay minimalistic and monochromatic in order not to draw attention away from the dress and jewelry. Black high heels and a classic black clutch will finish off this outfit in the best manner.
Light pastels…
Baby blue and lavender may seem like a lovely option for a long, silky dress which you will wear to a spring wedding. However, these colors or any others that are very light and resembling white, should not be your option for wedding guest attire. Instead, you can opt for darker-hued pastels, such as dark rose or leaf green. Match a darker rose wrap dress with some exquisite moonstone jewelry, such as the pieces you can find at the amazing Moon Magic, and go for a pair of nude stilettos and a burgundy clutch. The pinkish tone of the moonstone and the burgundy of your purse will marvelously complement the color of your dress.
If you are choosing to wear a darker green or blue pastel color, you can easily and stylishly combine a long, strapless dress in one of these colors with some sophisticated gold jewelry that has subtly hued gems. As for footwear, you can go with the classic nude, strappy sandals and match them with a clutch that has a gold over-the-shoulder chain.
White, off white, or ivory…
Essentially, any shade of white is a big ‘no’ for the color of your wedding guest outfit. Although white and nuances of white are a fantastic spring/summer color, you should still let the bride be the only one wearing this color and enjoy being in the spotlight, as this is truly her day. Instead, opt for a bright and fresh color such as yellow. A floaty and lightweight material in this color will be perfect for a long-sleeved maxi dress.
Celebrate love and sunny weather with gold accessories, for example, a couple of cuff bracelets and big, trendy hoop earrings. You can even go for champagne-colored stilettos or, if you still want to incorporate white in your stylish wedding look, you can do so with a pair of white strappy sandals and a matching clutch.
Red…
Red is a divine color and we can indeed say that it is the color of love. That is why it may seem like a good option for a shade to wear when going to a wedding. However, you don’t want to attract the spotlight to you with such a statement color – therefore, it would be best to avoid it. A much better option is to go for a red and white floral pattern. This way, you will have the ideal spring-inspired fashion piece that is subtle, yet fashionable.
You can go for a floral sleeveless, silk crepe dress and accessorize it with rose quartz earrings and a delicate chain, rose gold bracelet that will amazingly match the red tones of your wedding attire. An off-white pair of stilettos and a matching clutch with rose gold details will give an extra romantic dimension to this charming wedding guest outfit.
In the end, start preparing on time your stylish look for the wedding you are going to attend. When you finally assemble the perfect outfit, relax and enjoy the special day, in which you will celebrate the love of the bride and groom, and share the joyful atmosphere with everyone around you.
