Thank you to Brisbane based hair educator and former men’s hairdresser of the year, Jules Tognini, for this wonderful advice…
For blokes lucky enough to be walking down the aisle this year, attention is usually paid to the latest styles in suits and shoes for the modern groom, but what about the latest trends in facial hair and skincare?
The new year is a perfect time for blokes to shake up their routine and inject a bit of self-care into their wedding prep. New research commissioned by Bulldog Skincare for Men shows almost half (42%) of Aussie blokes are planning to experiment with a new grooming style as we start the new year.
Brisbane based hair educator and former men’s hairdresser of the year, Jules Tognini, is predicting the top trends in grooming and shaving for 2021, along with tips for how guys can best achieve them at home.
See trends below:
TREND ONE:
- The taming of the lockdown beard
- The iso-beard is here to stay, but it’s getting a makeover. 58% of men say they’re planning to groom their face more and tidy up their iso-beard.
A lot of guys let their facial hair go wild during lockdown. And while iso-scruff is likely to stick around into 2021, we’ll see the novelty of really long and unruly facial hair wear off. Guys will begin paying more attention to their beards, keeping them shorter, cleaner and more tidy.
Pro tip
Tough and dry beard hair can look unruly and even give your partner pash rash – ouch! Keep your beard smelling fresh and clean with Bulldog Skincare for Men’s nourishing Original Beard Shampoo & Conditioner. Use a beard oil, such as Bulldog’s Original Beard Oil, which contains aloe vera, camelina oil and green tea to keep your beard feeling soft and moisturised. Finally, style your beard with hydrating balm such as Bulldog’s Original Beard Balm to bring a healthy shine and keep the hairs in place.
TREND TWO:
- The moustache is having its mo-ment
- As an emerging trend, the moustache is having its moment with one in ten (11%) guys looking to try a mo into summer and the new year.
2020 was a tough year – to lighten the mood, 2021 will be about fun and experimentation when it comes to grooming and shaving. We’re already seeing guys begin to embrace the moustache in all its glory, a trend which will continue into 2021.
Pro tip
Hipster mos are back, but if you want this look, it’s important to keep it in check. Keep the mo sharp and contained with the right razor, like Bulldog Skincare’s Original Bamboo Razor. With five steel blades and a pivoting head, it’s easy to achieve the perfect mo! And for the ultimate close shave, a shaving gel is the way to go. Try Bulldog’s Original Shave Gel to ensure the perfectly styled mo every day of the week.
TREND THREE
- Putting your best face forward
- Skincare will be a big focus over the new year, with one in five men (19%) planning to reboot their skincare regime and use more male grooming products including moisturiser and face wash on a daily basis.
As social distancing rules ease and the weather heats up, we’re all spending more time outside the house socialising. As we move into 2021, there will be a renewed focus on looking and feeling good. Moisturiser really is a man’s best friend – already loads of guys are using their partners’ products, but next year we’ll continue to see guys embrace their own face products.
Pro tip
Go all out with a three-step wash, scrub and moisturise routine to keep your skin feeling fresh. End the routine with Bulldog Skincare’s Original Moisturiser to hydrate the skin without leaving a sticky or greasy residue. Bulldog also has a Sensitive and Oil Control moisturiser if you want a more tailored product for your skin type.
Finding the best facial hair for your face shape, along with the right skin routine will help grooms feel confident and look good on their big day says Jules Tognini:
“One big thing I’ve learnt this year is that guys don’t know a lot about looking after their skin and facial hair. The iso beard was definitely widespread in 2020, beard newbies dove into the trend without knowing how to care for their newfound facial hair.”
“Without the right products to tame the beard, they can look pretty gross and smell pretty bad. A grown out beard that isn’t groomed can change your face shape for the worst – making you look chubbier and more round in the face”
“Looking good is key to feeling good about yourself. Investing a little bit of time into your appearance is so important in feeling confident. Part of that is finding the facial hair that makes you feel ‘you’ and developing the right routine to look after it.”
