Thank you to our Guest Contributor Sophia Smith for this amazing article…
Covid-19 has upended almost every single aspect of our daily lives – and honeymoons are no different. Couples from all over the world are still having a hard time planning their weddings, honeymoons, or even dates, and it doesn’t look like the world will be fully back to normal in quite some time yet.
Since most of the things we took for granted have been changed, young people looking to get married and get away on a honeymoon are likely to be disappointed if they expect a completely traditional vacation. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean you’ll be unable to have a completely spectacular honeymoon. It just might not be what you originally planned for yourself.
That’s why we’ve decided to write this article. We want to help you have the best time you possibly can, and for that you’ll need to understand what’s realistically possible and how to make the best out of a very tricky situation. Here’s what you can expect:
Choose only one destination
A lot of couples want to make a whole adventure of their honeymoon. They’ll plan to see several countries or at least cities and spend a few days in each of them, which would be a fine idea during any other point in time. However, given how risky travel can be, it would be a better idea for couples to stick to a single destination to minimize travel time.
Of course, this doesn’t need to be a boring option at all – just imagine yourself renting a yacht and spending several weeks exploring a place in the Mediterranean. There are certainly still ways to have an adventure and stay safe at the same time.
Ditch big cruise ships
This should go without saying, but big cruise ships are probably the riskiest option right now. As fun as it might be to hang out with a crowd of interesting strangers, the chances of infection will be increased and you could easily get stuck in a sea-bound quarantine.
That’s why renting yachts for charter is a much better idea right now. A nice luxury yacht will offer you the privacy you need and allow you to enjoy all that glamour in peace. If you really want the whole shabang of a big cruise ship, it might be a good idea to wait until everyone gets vaccinated and the world is a safer place.
Consider a domestic trip
lot of couples are opting for domestic trips right now. It’s giving them a chance to rediscover their own country and enjoy a more homey vibe, and the majority of people are completely satisfied with their experience.
Faraways, exotic destinations will always be fun to visit, but just because your honeymoon is more domestic doesn’t mean you’ll never be able to travel away to the Bahamas or enjoy cocktails on a Hawaiian beach. One of the good things about staying within your own country is that you’ll be cutting down on the costs – just hop in your car and take an uncomplicated regional trip that can be just as enjoyable as something exotic.
Consider a “first moon” trip
If the travel restrictions in your country are still too strict but you don’t want to let go of your dream honeymoon idea, it’s perfectly fine to wait until things are different. In the meantime, why not take a so-called “first moon” trip?
First moon trips are short, pre-honeymoon trips that serve to give the couple a short vacation where they can celebrate with their partner before the circumstances change and we’re all allowed to travel more freely again. A first moon trip can provide the perfect getaway from the daily stress for you and your boo, and it’s only a small taste of what’s to come in the future.
Be ready for potential cancellations or postponements
Given that the whole situation with the global pandemic is still uncertain, cancellations or postponements might happen regardless of how well you plan your trip. We’re not telling you this to put a damper on your mood – quite the opposite, in fact. Instead of pinning all your hopes on one date for the honeymoon and then having your hopes crutched if the trip gets cancelled, it would be a good idea to make a backup plan. Stay as flexible as possible and keep your options open for a domestic trip in case international travel is put on pause.
There is really no reason you can’t have an incredible honeymoon despite everything that’s happening right now. After all, with a little bit of planning and open-mindedness you can make almost anything happen.
