You have found the ideal life partner. The big day looms and yet there is an unwelcomed third party. Acne.
So, we asked Skin Spa Medispa in Ashgrove, Brisbane for some insight and the do’s and dont’s for acne treatment…
“One thing we see often with brides / grooms to be, is that they leave little time
leading up to the big day, to treat their acne. This has many knock-on effects and if treatment is planned in advance, much stress can be avoided.”
Firstly, acne is a stubborn condition. It takes many weeks or in some cases many months to remove, even with intense treatments and modified lifestyle / diet. Because of this, you do not want mounting pressure and stress leading up to your day, with pustules and active p.acne infections on your most visible asset, your face.
So, plan your treatment options a long time in advance.
Secondly, not only budgeting time for treatments, but financial budgeting for acne treatments is vital. Visits to the Dermatologist can exceed $250 just for the consultation, with additional regular treatment costs on top of this. Other treatment options may require you to consider allowing $2000 or more to combat it.
Which ever way you choose to go, in most cases, specialised knowledge, relevant professional products and relevant technology will be required.
Thirdly, acne is a spectrum related condition meaning that its frequency, distribution and intensity can vary greatly amongst individuals. What works for one client will vary and possibly not work so well with another. So be mindful of friends and family making comments like…”My acne cleared up in 3 weeks or it will go away if you stop eating this and that..”
Acne just does not work that way. So here are some tips to help you along the way!
DONT’s | DO’s |
Consume foods high in fat, sugars or dairy | Change your towel often & facewasher daily |
Touch your face, it just spreads the infection | Change your pillowslip at least 3 x weekly |
Undertake microdermabrasion – it can spread the p.acne bacteria across the face | Sterilise razors using anti-bac products or change very frequently, p.acne loves razors! |
Squeeze pimples, it can lead to scarring and the infection spreading wider and deeper | Consider an extraction or acne facial treatment to carefully remove pustules/plugs |
Definitely don’t compare your progress or speed of results to others. It varies greatly. | Make wise dietary choices – vegetables / fruit and consume water with gusto! |
Delay or procrastinate your chosen treatment– stress leading up to your big day is very likely to cause breakout ! | Decide upon your chosen treatment quickly – acne is stubborn to remove & needs time and budget aplenty |
So what can I do now?
Plan or identify your treatment method…and cleanse!
Plan / prepare your budget, well in advance of your special day…and cleanse!
Follow the Do’s & Dont’s in the table above…oh and cleanse!
Take immediate action. Early intervention is key – The sooner you take action, the sooner you will take control of the infection, the less it will cost you, the less time it will take… and generally the less acne scarring will occur.
