Thank you to our Guest Contributor Cynthia Milo for this wonderful article…
Australia is home to some wonderful annual festivals, including the month-long Floriade festival, which begins in September of each year and celebrates the wonders of spring. From Coachella in the USA to Glastonbury in the UK, if you want to get married during an Aussie festival or a festival in any other country, you should know that careful wedding planning will be the key to a dream wedding that you and your wedding guests remember fondly forever.
Is a festival wedding right for you?
Festival weddings are awesome, but they’re not for every bride-to-be. When you marry at a festival, your wedding will be important to guests, but they’ll also be focused on all of the festival action that is swirling around them. In other words, they’ll be celebrating both your nuptials and the festival itself.
If you’re a social person and love the vibrant community spirit of festivals, as well as the way that they attract people from all over the world, you should consider a festival wedding. If you’re into music and have attended many festivals or concerts in the past, you’re probably comfortable with dressing in rock-n-roll-style attire, such as black tank tops and miniskirts with combat boots or platform sandals. This makes you a good candidate for a wedding at a rock or EDM festival, or a festival with any genre of music that appeals to your specific tastes. If you’re more low-key, a festival that celebrates nature, like Floriade, would make a good choice.
Find out the festival’s rules about weddings
Bear in mind that you may not be able to get married at the festival site. Every festival has its own rules. The smart strategy is to contact the festival organisers and tell them what you want to do. They’ll give you practical information about whether or not it’s possible. If it isn’t, you can always get married close by, outside of the festival gates. You can usually contact festival organizers months ahead of time with questions, via phone or email, and you should.
Of course, you’ll need a marriage license and everything that it takes to make your wedding legally binding. If you’re marrying outside of your home country, at an international festival, you should find out how to get the license that you need. Make sure you have a legal ceremony that’s the real thing, or otherwise you’ll come home from the festival just as unwed as you were before!
A formal wedding may not suit the tone and vibe of most festivals, so it’s better to keep things cool and casual. Go for a special dress or feel free to get married in your rocker or EDM attire. Get creative and do what makes you happy, but don’t overdo it with the little details. Focus on getting the right permission and marriage license, inviting the right people, and dressing in clothes that make you feel amazing, and get ready to party with friends as you marry the love of your life.
